The 3rd edition of “King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award to Achieve the SDGs” has been launched. This Award is administrated through a joint project between the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs of the Government of Bahrain, and UNDP’s Country Office in Bahrain. The Award’s ultimate aim is to promote youth-related initiatives and projects on sustainable development around the world. Launched in 2017 and open to nominations from all countries in the world, the Award recognizes youth initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of their communities, their environmental sustainability, and all other SDG-related principles. In addition, the Award identifies institutions that help and enable youth to thrive while also accelerating the SDGs. The technical jury of the Award that is responsible for selecting and shortlisting the best initiatives comprises 9 senior international expert staff members from the United Nations. This year’s edition of the Award will include in its criteria the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, giving special attention to those projects that showed resilience to the effects of the pandemic, and/or that have promoted solutions to overcome it.
