On November 27th, 2018, the new Bahrain Human Development Report 2018 was launched, a joint effort by the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy (DERASAT), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain. The event took place at the Four Seasons Hotel, and was attended by national Government authorities, diplomatic corps, international organizations, and other partners.
Welcoming remarks were made by H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of DERASAT, and H.E. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, UNDP Resident Representative. After that, a video message by UNDP's Administrator, Mr. Achim Steiner was broadcasted, followed by the key note speech by UNDP's Senior Strategic Advisor for Arab States and Arab Human Development Report Coordinator, Dr. Adel Abdellatif.
The last part of the launch event consisted of a panel discussion on some of the topics covered by the Report, moderated by Dr. Omar Al-Ubaydli, co-author of the Report and Director for Economics and Energy Studies at DERASAT. The panel included Dr. Craig Naumann Lead Author of the Report, HE Ms. Faeqa Al Saleh, Minister of Health, Dr. Jawaher Al-Mudhahki, Chief Executive, Education and Training Quality Authority, and Ms. Tala Fakhro, Executive Director, Market & Strategy Intelligence, Economic Development Board. The event closed with final remarks by H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla, Chariman of DERASAT.
