UN Bahrain Celebrates UN DayOct 24, 2013
The United Nations Day will be celebrated by the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Bahrain with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information Affairs on Thursday, 24 October 2013.
The focus of this year’s UN Day commemoration is the MY World Global Survey, an innovative survey launched by the United Nations and partners that aims to capture people's voices, priorities and views so that global leaders can be informed as they begin the process of defining the new development agenda for the world.
Through creative online and offline methods, MY World asks individuals which six of sixteen possible issues they think would make the most difference to their lives. The sixteen issues have been built up from the priorities expressed by poor people in existing research and polling exercises and they cover the existing Millennium Development Goals, plus issues of sustainability, security, governance and transparency.
The official function in the morning of the UN Day commemoration will be under the patronage of H E Samira Rajab, Minister of State for Information Affairs. The function will begin at 10:30 hrs with an art/painting session at the UN Information Centre library hall by 16 young painters groomed by Bahraini painter Abbas Al Mosawi. The young painters’ work of art will be inspired by the MY World campaign.
This will be followed by a press conference at 11:00 hrs at the UN House conference hall where the MY World Global Survey will be officially launched. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message as well as the MY World Global Survey introduction video will be screened. Official statements focusing on the UN-Bahrain partnership and the MY World Global Survey will be delivered by H E Samira Rajab as well as by the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Peter Grohmann.
In the evening of the UN Day, a reception will be held at the Al Fanar Hall, Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel at 19:00 hrs under the patronage of H E Ghanem Fadhel Al Buanain, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The evening will also include a presentation on the MY World Global Survey.
