The launch of the Second Guide for Parliamentarians

The launch of the Second Guide for Parliamentarians was celebrated today at the House of Parliament by the Council of Representatives, the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the United Nations Development programme (UNDP). The guide, prepared by Supreme Council for Women and Shura Council member Ms. Dalal Al-Zayed, emphasizes the important role played by elected members and their role in supporting and achieving development. Also in attendance were Council of Representatives Speaker, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Ali Almulla, and UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative His Excellency Mr. Amin El Sharkawi.

His Excellency Mr. Amin El-Sharkawi, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bahrain, highlighted the many initiatives between the UNDP, Parliament and the SCW. He stressed the importance of the United Nations as a cornerstone of global cooperation. In his statement, HE Mr. El-Sharkawi highlighted the commitment made by parliaments globally to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets. He stressed the readiness of the UN to support the parliament in its role to monitor the SDGs in Bahrain. 

His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Ali Almulla noted that the guide reflected the importance of the culture of Parliament, and thanked all parties involved for their effort. The guide is the latest in a series of projects between the UNDP and Parliament.
