  • UNDP and Microsoft collaborate for youth empowerment in education Jan 9, 2017

    Marking the first national collaboration of its kind, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UNDP and Microsoft in Bahrain was signed in a small signing ceremony, held in UN House. It was signed by UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, HE Amin El Sharkawi and Microsoft Country Manager for Bahrain and Oman, Mr Sherif Tawfik.

  • UNDP and BJA Host Media Discussion On Recently Released Arab Human Development Report Jan 3, 2017

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with the Bahrain Journalists Association, organized a discussion on the “Arab Human Development Report, 2016” at the UN House in Hoora on Tuesday. The report was presented by Dr. Adel Abdellatif, Chief of the Regional Programme Division at the UNDP Regional Bureau of Arab States in New York via Skype. Hosted by Mr. Moanes Al Mardi, Board Chairman of the Bahrain Journalists Association and H.E. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, the event brought together over 30 participants including journalists, UN officials and civil society groups.

    Climate Change, Quality Education and Gender Quality were highlighted as the three Sustainable Development Goals most relevant to youth in Bahrain at the YouthsSpeak Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) organized by AIESEC’s Bahrain Chapter and in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Bahrain Development Bank (BDB).

  • Launch of the “Conquer Barriers, Empower Inclusion” Initiative for Persons with Disability Oct 24, 2016

    The “Conquer Barriers, Empower Inclusion” initiative for wheelchair users was launched on October 24th as part of an event celebrating the UN’s 71st anniversary at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel in Manama in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Social Development and His Excellency Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative. Under the theme of “71 17: 71 years for 17 goals”, this year’s UN Day highlighted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a set of universal goals that will shape policies until 2030.

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, presented the Country Programme Document for the Kingdom of Bahrain for 2017-2020 to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Executive Board during its annual session in New York.

    The launch of the Second Guide for Parliamentarians was celebrated today at the House of Parliament by the Council of Representatives, the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the United Nations Development programme (UNDP). The guide, prepared by Supreme Council for Women and Shura Council member Ms. Dalal Al-Zayed, emphasizes the important role played by elected members and their role in supporting and achieving development. Also in attendance were Council of Representatives Speaker, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Ali Almulla, and UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative His Excellency Mr. Amin El Sharkawi.
